You will need to allow an hour for your first appointment. The chiropractor will take a full medical history and will perform any orthopaedic or neurological tests necessary to assess your condition. If the chiropractor believes that you need medical attention, he will refer you back to your GP.
X-rays are not a routine part of the examination for McTimoney chiropractic. If the chiropractor suspects a bone fracture or other condition requiring X-ray investigation he will refer you back to your GP.
The chiropractor will explain his findings and give you an indication of how many treatments he thinks will be necessary. A typical treatment plan might be four visits at weekly intervals with a progress review at the fourth visit, more visits might be required for a long-standing problem or if there is ongoing aggravation from a person’s job or sporting activity. It is often possible to increase the intervals between appointments as time goes on. Once the problem has been resolved, periodic check-ups are recommended to keep your spine and other joints functioning well.
